David W. Lakamp Architect Scholarship Application 2027

Scholarship Information

This scholarship was initiated in 1990 by a/e ProNet, an association of insurance professionals providing risk management services to architects and engineers. In 1999, the scholarship was renamed for David W. Lakamp, a founder of a/e ProNet and a trusted advisor to the profession. He left behind a legacy of professionalism and integrity that set new standards in the field of insurance services.

The a/e ProNet David W. Lakamp Architect scholarship is awarded annually to up to two students who demonstrate a strong interest in practice and risk management in the field of architecture. Each student receives a $5,000 award.

To be eligible for the a/e ProNet David W. Lakamp Architect Scholarship, students must meet the following criteria:

US, UK or Canadian Citizen
GPA of 3.0 or higher
A fourth-year student in a NAAB accredited degree program; OR
A fourth-year student of a four-year pre-professional degree program in architecture accepted for direct entry to a two-year NAAB accredited M.Arch program; OR
A first-year student in a NAAB accredited M.Arch degree program for students with undergraduate degrees in another discipline.

Applicants Must Submit:

A personal biography highlighting interest or concentration in practice or risk management (200 words)
A professional resume
A response to a case study topic included in the application (300 words)
Two letters of recommendation (1 from Acedemia)

Application Period: September 1, 2026 – March 31, 2027
Review Period: March 31-April 30, 2027
Scholarship recipient selection: May 1, 2025
Scholarship recipients notified: Immediately following the meeting
First scholarship disbursement: August 2027

The review process begins with a/e ProNet Scholarship Committee vetting applications. Incomplete applications are immediately disqualified.

The review process covers four items within the applications: Letters of Recommendation, Resume, Biography, and Case Study Response. These items are scored out of 5, 5, 5, and 10 respectively (each letter of recommendation is scored separately), with extra weight being given to the case study response. Jurors are encouraged to use their discretion and personal experience in tandem with the grading scale to score these items. Each juror reviews every application.

Following the initial review process, a/e ProNet Scholarship Committee will compile the scores and identify the top 10 applicants. Once the top 10 applicants have been identified, an initial jury call is scheduled where jurors discuss the top applications. During this time, jurors are given an opportunity to recommend an applicant for consideration. This allows applicants to be considered that have received an outlier score that dropped them below the cutoff.

Final deliberations take place during a final jury call, where scholarship recipients are determined. Two recipients may be selected each cycle. Scholarship recipients receive a phone call notifying them of their award, and all other applicants receive an email notification notifying them they did not receive the award.
